I'm sooooo tired. I've been on the phone for hours. I had no idea the call would take so long, but I had to place it immediately. The folks at Dell have just spent several hours saving my computer, my files (including a novel that was not backed up) and possibly even my personal information from some heinous group of jackals who hijacked my computer and then tried to sell me the antidote so they could steal my credit card info (no, I did not give it). The bug came through my firewall and my protection and I lost all control over my machine. My first reaction was fury, but then... I had to get someone to help me fast. The tech had to take control of my screen and my browser and it was weird watching while someone else ran my stuff. Actually it was kind of triggering. Lucky for me, the guy on the phone sounded an awful lot like Old Guy in many ways. I didn't even scream (very loudly) when some yucky sex thing showed up on the screen at one point before the tech took over the computer. I guess all that stuff is why I feel a little bit cold and shivery now. And because I'm exhausted. Wanna hear something funny? I'm so glad there is a least one thing funny. When the tech (who sounded like Old Guy) took over my screen, I remember thinking of something kind of snippy I said to Old Guy once, way back when. I was different then. Clueless. I could not understand why I had been bitching to some shrink for weeks and STILL had panic attacks. And I told him so. I said, "Brain = computer. Psychologist = really good hacker. WHY CAN'T YOU FIX THIS?!!" Yes, I wanted him to link in and get rid of all the parasitic crap that lives in my head (computer) just like the folks at Dell can. I wonder if Dell sells system restore capabilities for human brains. Oh, wait... it would have to take me back prior to my birth to be effective and would probably crash my hard drive. Never mind. I'm going to bed and I hope I will stop shaking very soon now.

One more funny thing. After the first step of the repairs, which at least allowed me access to my stuff again, the tech helped me back up my novel before proceeding further. I was so distressed that I had forgotten how and he had to help me. He asked what I was backing onto. I hesitated and then said, "Don't tell anyone, but... I'm backing onto an external floppy." *Silence* Then... "FLOPPY? They still sell that?"

Yes, super-smart tech guy. But only to people like me.
:-)
'Night. For real before I lose it. I still feel shivery.
I'm so thankful for these computer geeks! I'm glad you were able to get back the control of your computer.
