And the last bit of business before leaving in the morning... The doggies went to their former owners who will love them and care for them while we are gone. The minute they saw the man who was their dad, they were all over him and he was thrilled. Lots of whining and happy dog sounds, butts and tails wagging a mile a minute. They jumped right up and licked and kissed his face and were so very happy. All 160 pounds of them. The people were all very happy, too. Some of them cried and some others were trying not to. My husband and two of our daughters came home and told me the story. I wish I could have seen it myself. It warms my heart to know our dogs are happy and will be soaking up love, affection and comfort while we are away instead of pining for us and feeling abandoned. It also made me feel good that the man marveled at how well and healthy they obviously still are. He was really picky about who he placed the dogs with and he gave very specific instructions for their continued health and happiness. He deserves to see the living proof that his reciprocal faithfulness to his canine companions is serving them well and that he gave his boys over to people who are able and willing to love them and care for them to high standards.
Hearing the story of the reunion made me think of how no one really forgets when someone loves and nurtures them when they are small and helpless. Love doesn't go away. Not for people and not for animals. It made me think of this video, too (and of my therapist). Animal lovers, grab a tissue if you are going to watch this love story. I hope you will watch. It is truly beautiful.

We found this video about two years ago and wrote about it on our blog as well. We love it. Thanks for putting it up.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes for your family vacation. Good and healing thoughts to you all, and the doggies.
