When Reality is Completely Subjective

The hub sometimes works with a Puerto Rican man who has been telling him about the fabulous real estate deals to be had in Puerto Rico. Seen from this man's point of view, I was imagining wonderful things to be had at dirt-cheap prices. So, of course, I had to check it out. And now I see that I will live here in Florida until the day I die. I would never even consider retiring to any of the 'bargains' there unless I had a contractor on call 24/7 and a shotgun mounted above every door.

Sometime we don't know how good we have it until we visit the reality of another. I think our sweaty and mosquito infested existence is better than the sweaty and mosquito infested roots of the hub's friend. And I'm sure he thinks Puerto Rico is better than Florida. Which begs one question. Why is he still here? I wonder if even he himself knows the answer.

*sigh*

Back to MY reality. The one where there is no free lunch.

35,000. USD each. Which would YOU rather buy?

Yeah. Me, too. Can't help it. I'm a stickler for indoor plumbling. Sure, there are other $35,000. choices in PR, but if I wanted to own a piece of the barrio, I'd venture down toward Miami or go back to NY and look downstate near the city. I won't be doing either of those things and I'm not interested in Puerto Rico. I know when I've got it good. (Any of y'all want to buy a house from me? Pay no mind to the swamp out back. We ain't got no Malaria mosquito here, but I guess we all have our problems, eh? But better the devil you know than the devil you don't.)

  1. Sounds like there is no place like home!

  2. That is one of the things I remember most vividly about living in Venezuela: the wretched living standards. People outside the city of Caracas built hundreds of those things along the sides of the hills, and if a huge rainstorm swept them down, they'd go right back and build them in the same places..... (shudder). Not me.

  3. I love to watch that show House Hunters in HDTV (I know i am lame and boring) and it always amazes me "what you get for the money" in different locations...
Like my house would be 100K less in the midwest, and 300K more in orange county...
