Me: Come on! You have to get up and get ready to go to the dentist.
Youngest Daughter: I don't feel like going today. You didn't even tell me about the appointment and that's not fair because I just went last week and that hurt my mouth.
Me: I know, but you have cavities and don't you want to get it over with?
Youngest: No, not really. I don't see why I can't go in a couple of weeks.
Me: Well, it's because the dentist called to confirm yesterday while you were at school and we told him you would be there.
Youngest: You only told him that because you didn't ask me first.
Me: (Yes, sometimes I'm a dumbass and have no good answer and don't know what to say.)
Youngest: J has a cavity. She can take my appointment and then I can take hers for next month.
Me: J, do you want to?
J: YES!! Let's get this done.
Me to Littlest: You are a very smart girl.
Youngest: And I am the boss of my body, too, but you forgot that.
Me: Yes, I guess I did. I'm sorry. I'm glad you reminded me.
The littlest is only 10. Teach them early and they'll start calling you out on the carpet for your lapses. As it should be.
