Out of Doggie Dream Land and back to the real world. I have so much to do this week. I need to clear some things from my to-do list. The sleep deprivation I suffered over the weekend is not serving me well. Nor is the fact that I have barely been eating. One of the things I have to do this week is for my son - always a sensitive area considering where he is. I'm feeling overwhelmed. Feeling overwhelmed makes me feel afraid. I was too tired to do the shopping Sunday and now I have to do it tonight. The laundry is piled up. I'm behind the eight ball and having feelings of incompetence makes the fear and depression come creeping back in. The manner in which I know how to function is frustrating. It seems like I have to dump off one thing in order to make room for another. Kind of like What, you need to acquire some critters and begin to blend them into your household? No, problem. We'll just get rid of eating, laundry and shopping and you should be just fine. I wish things were easier for me.
p.s. I said this in the last post: Instinct trumps everything else and the provider of food is one to be respected and obeyed instead of dragged down the street on the wrong end of a dog leash. I guess instinct IS the leader. The dogs love us, but the food trick is having very limited results. One of the kids got dragged today. As soon as the dog knew she was down, he stopped and came to lick her and love on her and whine his sympathy. They are very loving dogs and have impeccable behavior inside the house, but they are purebred golden retrievers. They retrieve. If they see something, their instinct is to chase it down. Looks like we are headed to doggie obedience school to figure a solution that will allow for normal walking.

You can try a head halter. Those are a humane form of a leash and people I see use them find them very helpful.
ReplyDeleteWe use the head halters and they do make a difference, but walking them is still much harder than I could have ever imagined. We have been looking up advice online and the hub is doing some work with them. We also called a dog training school and are waiting for a call back from the trainer. We are confident that we can find a way to improve this situation. They are very fine dogs and we really have no other issues with them other than walking. I'm sure we'll get it solved. It the meanwhile, I should probably start lifting weights.

Sorry - I had to laugh a little, even though I know the problems with allowing such behavior to go unchecked!! I just read a book from the library called "Be the Dog" that was pretty good. Highly recommend!!
ReplyDeleteI was going to recommend a Halti.
ReplyDeleteHow old are they?
Do their ears flop?
