Close Call

Some fool came rushing out of a sidestreet in the pitch black with no headlights and nearly T-boned my ass. No telling what would have happened if not for cat-like reflexes and instant response. But none of that would have done any good had I not been sitting behind an engine and transmission that hauls its ass IMMEDIATELY when I floor it. And THAT, among other reasons, is why I always drive a Ford. Thank you, Ford Motor Company.

My exact car:

Now, if my hands will just stop shaking, then I will be just fine. Maybe some Alan Jackson will help.

  1. Thank God,you are safe.I had a '65 Ford Galexlie 500 that would do the same thing.I bought it in '71 while was at my tech school while in the USAF and stationed at Chanute AFB,Rantool Ill.

  2. Thank you for sharing that, Mike. I love me some Ford, too. In my opinion, they really are the best cars for the money. I did buy a Nissan once, but the engine blew up. I think it was made out of tin foil or something. I don't know. They're just not tough like Fords, I guess. I once slid down a hill on a sheet of black ice in an old Ford Grenada and there wasn't anything I could do but hit the horn on my way down to warn those at the bottom. I slammed into the corner of a building and was completely uninjured and the hood of the Grenada had a small crease in it. It knocked the hell out of the building, though. Bricks all over the sidewalk. That thing could haul and thankfully, it was built like a tank, too. It (and a seatbelt) saved my ass. I hate to think what would have happened to me had I gone flying into the corner of a brick building in the Nissan.

  3. Some dipshit teenage girl did a similar thing to me today. Luckily I had just started my run after turning at the stop sign and wasn't driving more than 30 miles an hour. Silly little twit pulled right out in front of me making a left turn onto a busy street--I don't even think she looked. I slammed on the brakes and laid on the horn and man I wish looks could kill because her head would have exploded. One of those little girly girls who thinks that everyone should be looking out for her and at her because she's cute--you can just tell.
For me, a car's a car. I have an old Ford escort that I rarely drive. I should try to sell it. I drive my ancient Subaru legacy more often. It has all wheel drive and anti-lock brakes. The Ford was decent enough in good weather--it still runs okay but it's got a lot of miles on it. However, I won't even get into it in bad weather. One time when it started snowing I hit a patch of ice and ended up spinning across two lanes of oncoming traffic. I've had PTSD about driving in snow ever since then.

  4. I'm glad you made it out of your close call, too, Lily. And what you said about your driving incident in the snow and ice still bothering you today? Yup. I totally get that. Totally. It took me a few hours to stop shaking after the near miss tonight. And my mind wandered back to sliding down that hill helpless to stop it. I remember how I felt when I stopped trying and leaned on the horn while I still could. That horn was short for, "Get out of the way and call me an ambulance." People don't quite forget those things. Even when they seem to.

  7. Whatever you drive, it should protect you. You are not hurt, and that's good.

  8. SO glad you are OK!! Those are the things I always say take lives off of you - like a cat. (Myself, I'm down to about 5 lives by now).

Although, I had a bad Ford once - it was a '71 station wagon with ignition switch problems. I'd turn it off and it would turn itself back on...... (Shudder!)

  9. Yes, Mago, it is good. It's always good to make it home in one piece.

Hi, LC! Your Ford turned itself back on? That's because a Ford is generally always rarin' to go! Seriously though, sounds like you got hold of a lemon. Or a 'Christine'. :-)
