Kitchens, Computers, and Comfort

Well, I have the basic set-up done with the new laptop. I cleaned out the Gateway and gave it to my husband. He likes it a lot better than his old one. So far, so good with this new Dell. It's smaller, lighter, and easier to manage. And I have a normal keyboard size again instead of the wider one, which I never quite got used to. I went back to Dell because I knew I could get a good deal, and they always seem to have some pretty smart kids in tech. I found a nice boy to put together my order with custom features for everything I wanted to do. So far, the kid was spot on with what he helped put together for me. I'm especially glad to have XP instead of Vista. Plus, my Microsoft programs in the Gateway had limited compatiblity with that operating system. It was quite frustrating. I think this will be loads better. I still have a few details to take care of with this one, but... I'm here using it now. And I'm using it at the kitchen table. :-)

I really like my kitchen now. It's nice and cozy and just how I want it. The kids are even messing it up less with me in here so much. I think they want me to see that they are big girls now and can clean up after themselves. I even bought flowers! They look so nice in here. (Pics if I set up camera-ware before they die.) It has been a LONG time since I bought flowers. Almost three years. I used to buy them quite often before that. As a matter of fact, the first Christmas in this house was only two weeks after the really bad flashback that brought back the memory of the dirtball. We were barely moved in over here and I couldn't really do anything after that. My husband had to shop and cook. I couldn't even decorate at all. My one tiny contribution was flowers. I needed something pretty and comforting to offset the remaining moving boxes and the terrible fear and grief, so I gathered up the presence of the Dream Mother and I brought him with me to the store up the road, and I bought flowers. And now I have some more. It took me three years to buy them, but they're very pretty.

  1. Glad you have a comfy place to relax in! Safe feeling places seem to be hard to com by for you, no? :-)

Have to say though, that I hate flowers. No real reason other than the price gouging that goes along with them. I'm always outraged by the obscene prices, ehnce the reason The Wife so rarely receives them from me! I be a cheap SOB at heart I guess . . .

    Later!

  2. I buy a pot of orchids about once a year. With only a wee bit of care (that's important) they will bloom the whole year round. It does help.

  3. I hear ya, Jim. I'm cheap, too. I guess we all have our certain exceptions. Since you rarely buy flowers, I bet your wife would be really surprised if you brought some home with you. Hint. :-)

I don't know the kind, Kahless. They don't seem to have much of a scent, either, but they look really pretty. It's actually two bunches of very similar looking ones. Some are white and some are a deep orange. The colors go over well in here. The orange ones might be a kind of daisy.

Potted ones are good, Amanda. They are supposed to last, and the cheapskate in me really, really likes that. I've already killed one orchid this year, though. I'm a plant murderer, I guess. A brown thumbed woman. At least I expect the cut flowers to die. I bought potted mums for my bedroom a couple of weeks ago. I pruned them and put them outside while they still have a chance. Maybe I will get cut flowers for the bedroom next time! I think this house is the problem. There is not enough sunlight.

  4. I think of buying flowers but rarely do it. I don't know why because it really does brighten a whole room.

Glad you got a laptop that you are happy with. Got to be happy with your computer especially if you use it anywhere near as much as I do.

Also, isn't it a bit discomfiting when you realize that you are calling the Dell people, smart kids and nice boys? When did that happen... that we became old enough to think of them as kids? LOL!

  5. Haha, Tamara! Yes, I do love those nice kids at Dell!

    :-)

Once I got this guy who said I remind him of his mother when I mentioned my external floppy drive. Hee hee. Made me want to invite him over so I could feed him. I love to watch young people chow down.
